Restaurants in La Paloma – Viola

Posted by zenhotel on August 19th, 2010

The Restaurant at Hotel Viola is under new management, and it continues to be a popular place to eat throughout the year. They have a massive variety of meals on the menu – there really is something on there for everyone. The fireplace is a cosy addition through out winter, and the whole place has a really comfortable atmosphere. Since it has been under new management, we have eaten here once during the day. The meals were of generous size, and the food was fresh.

The Restaurant Viola is located at the Hotel Viola on the main street of La Paloma. As you enter La Paloma’s main street, Avenida Solari, you will find it on your left hand side.

They really have quite an extensive menu at Viola. You will find Pizzas, Milanesas, Chivitos, a variety of Grilled Meats and Seafood, just to name a few! There are a lot of the “traditional” meals that you will find on a lot of menus throughout Uruguay, along with a small variety of more specialty dishes.

Due to the extensive menu, it is hard to give an accurate indication of price. Here you can choose from something around $140 pesos up to around $400 pesos – or less for pizza.

It is great to support Restaurants that are open throughout the whole year in La Paloma. We will come here again, and look forward to seeing what the new management bring to the venue. Viola is open every day for lunch and dinner.

We look forward to seeing you in La Paloma!

Restaurants in La Paloma – El Bahia

Posted by zenhotel on August 19th, 2010

Restaurant El Bahia is one of the best Restaurants in La Paloma and is open all year round. They offer great service and really nice range of meals at a fairly reasonable price. The decor is cosy and there is airconditioning, so it is a very comfortable place to be throughout the whole year.

We have been to El Bahia a couple of times, and have been impressed each time. The service is professional and friendly, and the meals are really good. This last time I was there, I had the Lamb dish (which came recommended to me from a friend), and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Lamb was served on kebabs which were made from Rosemary branches and served with a Butia sauce. Andres had the Entrecot with Pepper Sauce which was cooked to perfection. Mum was also here at the time, and she had the Chicken with Cherry and Panceta, which she loved.

Although it is one of the more expensive restaurants in town, when you compare it to other destinations in Uruguay, like Punta del Este or Colonia, it is really quite reasonable.

Restaurant El Bahia is located on Avenida del Navio, close to Avenida Solari at Hotel Bahia.

They offer a great variety of meals and a lovely change from the standard Chivitos and Milanesas. They feature some local produce including Butia (from the local palm tree), Holzmann pork products (made in Rocha) plus home made Pastas. You will find delicious dishes of Lamb, Pork, Chicken, Steak and Seafood. The entrees are all tempting and the desserts all sound delicious. There is also a great variety of wines.

The average price for a main meal here is around $280 – $300 pesos.

I highly recommend that if you get the chance to visit La Paloma, it is really worth going to Restaurant El Bahia. During Summer it is open everyday, but throughout the off season, El Bahia is closed on Thursdays.

We look forward to weloming you to La Paloma!
